Individualized Home Supports without Training in Minnesota
Practical support with routines and community living in the Twin Cities. IHS without training helps you use the skills you already have, with assistance where you need it.
What is Individualized Home Supports without Training?
IHS without training provides assistance with everyday community living activities when you need support using or maintaining your current skills. You may know how to plan a meal but need prompts to follow through, or want support organizing an outing. Tell us what you want to keep doing yourself and where assistance would help. We Care works with you and your support team to shape the help around your routine.

Compare the three IHS options
- IHS without training
- Assistance to use or maintain current skills during everyday activities.
- IHS with training
- Practice toward an adult's skill goals, with support during the activity.
- IHS with family training
- Training for the person and/or family when the person lives in the family's home.
Help with a routine you already know
You know how to prepare lunch but often get stuck choosing what to make. A planning conversation could identify where a reminder, a short list, or help getting started would be useful. You can explain which steps you want to keep doing yourself.
This is a planning example, not a client story or a promised outcome.
Questions to bring to the conversation
- Which part of the routine is difficult to start or finish?
- What can you already do comfortably on your own?
- What kind of help feels useful, and what feels intrusive?
How to check service eligibility in Minnesota
IHS is available through BI, CAC, CADI, and DD waivers, subject to assessment, living-arrangement requirements, and authorization. Without training is a service option for adults and children. Confirm the person's age, setting, and support needs with the intake team.
